Key ideas

Anyone can get healthier- just by moving. Anytime, anywhere, and in any way!

The main idea to remember is to move more and sit less. Any amount of activity is good for your health!

Physical activity goals

Kids and Teens: Kids and teens need at least 60 minutes of active play a day! Make sure to work their muscles and get them breathing hard. The more time playing, the better!

Adults: 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) per week of moderate intensity activity.

  • Choose an activity you enjoy. If you do activities you don’t like, you likely won’t keep doing them for long. No need to go to the gym or take up jogging if you don’t want to!

Older Adults: 150 minutes of activity including balance and muscle strengthening activities.

What does intensity mean?

Light Intensity: moving at an even pace, able to talk and sing. Examples: walking at an easy pace, cooking, and light chores.

Moderating Intensity: faster heart rate. You can talk, but you can’t sing. Examples: quick walking, yard work, vacuuming.

Vigorous Intensity: you can’t say more than a few words without stopping for a breath. Examples: running, carrying heavy items upstairs, fitness classes.
